For James Price, a veteran and former union president, a simple phone call turned into an opportunity that would change his life. His case manager reached out with unexpected news—he was eligible to receive free dental care at Samaritan Dental Clinic.

“I jumped on it,” James recalls. “I've never had good teeth in my entire life, and this was a godsend.”

The Burden of Dental Pain

James had struggled with severe dental issues for years, enduring pain and self-consciousness about his smile. At one point, he even resorted to pulling his own teeth, leaving painful remnants that required surgical removal.

Despite the challenges, he had no idea that receiving care at Samaritan would be such a painless, enjoyable process. “I never felt a moment’s pain,” he shares. “The doctor was unbelievable.”

A Journey Toward Confidence

For James, this wasn’t just about fixing his teeth—it was about restoring his confidence and joy. As a public figure fighting to protect postal workers’ jobs, he spent years in the spotlight but often avoided smiling out of embarrassment.

“I was on TV and in the newspaper every week for three years. I was real serious when I talked because I was self-conscious about my teeth,” he explains. “But I’m a happy-go-lucky guy—it was hard not to smile.”

Now, that burden is behind him. His dental transformation is nearly complete, and he’s looking forward to a future where he can smile freely—without hesitation.

“How Do You Beat That?”

The impact of Samaritan Dental Clinic extends far beyond James. The program, staffed by full-time dental professionals and community volunteers, provides charitable and Medicaid-supported dental care to individuals who would otherwise go without.

James’ care came at no cost, aside from his commitment to attending appointments and following treatment plans. “The price was zero. As long as I made my appointments and did my commitments, they didn’t charge me a dime,” he says. “How do you beat that?”

Honoring Those Who Served

For Dr. Jenna Waselues, one of the dentists at Samaritan, James’ journey has been an honor to witness.

“It’s been such a pleasure getting to know and work with James,” she says. “Being able to serve somebody who served our country—it’s just been a real honor. And we’re so glad to have gotten him to a state of oral health and stability.”

More Than a Smile—A Fresh Start

James’ story is a powerful testament to the impact of accessible, compassionate dental care. It’s about more than fixing teeth—it’s about restoring dignity, confidence, and joy.

Now, as he nears the end of his treatment, James can’t stop smiling. “I’m beyond excited, beyond appreciative,” he says. “I don’t want to tear up or anything, but—it’s that life-changing for me.”

And as he grins for the camera, he leaves us with one final thought:

“I’m one happy camper.”
