Kum & Go Donates $5000 to Purchase Food for Hungry Kids!

Thousands of Northwest Arkansas children at-risk for weekend hunger can now go to sleep with food in their tummies because of donations from community business partners like Kum & Go. Samaritan Community Center (SCC) is the recipient of a $5000 grant from Kum & Go Giving Back, it was announced recently by Kum & Go. All funds from this grant will be used to purchase food for SCC’s SnackPacks for Kids (SFK) program.
“Kum & Go gives back 10% of our profits to charitable organizations, and we’re a proud contributor to food in our community,” says Emily Bahnsen, Philanthropy Manager of Kum & Go. “Samaritan Community Center is an asset to the City of Rogers and we’re happy to help support their hunger fighting efforts with this gift.”
SnackPacks for Kids was established by SCC in 2004 for the purpose of providing nutritional support to children at highest risk for hunger on weekends and school breaks and is now Arkansas’ largest weekend child feeding program. SFK is administered by the Samaritan Community Center through hand-in-hand coordination with schools and childcare centers across Northwest Arkansas. Each week SCC provides a snackpack filled with eight healthy snacks to schools for distribution to students on Friday. Teachers and counselors identify and distribute the snackpacks to the children most likely to suffer weekend food insecurity.
“We are so pleased to welcome Kum & Go to our snackpacks donor family,” said Debbie Rambo, SCC Executive Director. “Without community partners like Kum & Go Giving Back, we would not be able to serve as many children as we do. Our food cost for SnackPacks for Kids can run as high as $12,000 per week, so we are grateful for Kum & Go and other business partners who so readily give back to the communities where they do business.”
SCC currently provides approximately 6,000 snackpacks each week and during school breaks to 160 K-12 schools and community centers in all four Northwest Arkansas counties.
