BackPacks for Kids

Tickets Now Available For 2017 BackPacks for Kids!

Since 1999 the Samaritan Community Center has provided thousands of free backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies to area children, going into grades K-12, in late summer before the start of the new school year.

“We have teachers who have shared stories about children who were two to three weeks into the school year before it was known that they didn’t have access to needed supplies,” says Shannon Green, who spends over six months each year helping local businesses, organizations and churches drive for school supplies to fill our backpacks. “We believe it is critically important for children to be fully prepared that very first day of school. It helps them have a positive start to their learning experience.”

BackPacks for Kids Day 2017 is Saturday, Aug. 5. Times and locations are listed at the bottom of the page. NOTE: You MUST get your backpack ticket in advance. NO tickets will be handed out Aug. 5 and NO backpacks will be given without a ticket.

FREE tickets are now available at the locations listed on the graphic above. We have 3300 tickets available and there’s still time to get yours! Questions? Email Joe Raleigh or Shannon Green, or call either one of them at 479.636.4198.

Annual School Supply Drive Now In-Progress

Each year a focal point in preparation for BackPacks for Kids Day is our Annual School Supply Drive, co-sponsored by KLRC-FM and Northwest Arkansas Chick-fil-A restaurants. This year’s drive is scheduled for Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22. KLRC-FM will be at the Rogers Pleasant Grove Chick-fil-A on Friday, July 21 from 10 am to 6 pm encouraging folks to purchase school supplies and drop them by that Chick-fil-A, but supplies can be dropped at any NWA Chick-fil-A during the two-day event.

Last year over $3000 in supplies were gathered at all NWA Chick-fil-A restaurants during the two-day event. Questions about the supply drive? Email Shannon Green, or call her at 479.636.4198.

BackPacks for Kids Day has become an exciting community back-to-school event but it would not be possible without support from more than 500 businesses, churches, vendors, and individual community volunteers that come together to collect and inventory school supplies.
