17th Annual BackPacks for Kids Day A Great Success!!
Since 1999 the Samaritan Community Center has provided thousands of free backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies to area children, going into grades K-12, in late summer before the start of the new school year.
“We have teachers who have shared stories about children who were two to three weeks into the school year before it was known that they didn’t have access to needed supplies,” says Shannon Green, BackPacks for Kids Day Coordinator. “We believe it is critically important for children to be fully prepared that very first day of school. It helps them have a positive start to their learning experience.”
Thank you to all the amazing groups, individuals who made BackPacks for Kids Day 2016 a wonderful success!
And a special thanks to the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program. Their grant allowed us to purchase and distribute 2400 backpacks, and to also partner with Project Self Esteem of Carroll County and provide that organization with 600 backpacks to give to needy school children in their county.
