What is a Snackpack?
A Snackpack is a plastic bag filled with 8-10 healthy week-end snacks.
Who receives a Snackpack?
Over 3,500 children in 60 elementary schools, Head Starts or Early Childhood Centers receive a Snackpack every Friday during the traditional school year.
What counties participate in Snackpacks for Kids?
Benton, Carroll, Madison, and Washington Counties participate in the program.
Who determines which children receive a Snackpack?
The center relies on the school counselors to determine which children are the most at risk for hunger on the week-ends.
Are there really that many hungry children in the 4 county areas?
YES! There are approximately 39,406 children who currently receive free or reduced school meals in the 4 county areas; Snackpacks for Kids serves 8% of the total need.
Are the snack items donated to Samaritan Community Center?
Where the center is thankful for the many food drives that support Snackpacks for Kids, the center continues to purchase 35,000 snack items each month at a cost of $12,000.
What snacks are packed?
Individual pudding cups, juice boxes, fruit snacks, cheese crackers, fruit cups, animal crackers, fruit bars, pretzels, apple sauce, macaroni and cheese, and ramen noodles.
So Snackpacks for Kids is a peanut free program?
It is!
Do you need volunteers for Snackpacks for Kids?
